The U.S. Army offers future health care professionals the chance to complete a bachelor's degree with less debt and more advanced training. As an Officer, you'll rapidly develop your professional and leadership skills while serving on a world-class health care team.

ACTIVE NURSE CORPS PROGRAM

ARMY NURSE CANDIDATE PROGRAM
This program is open to undergraduate students pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited nursing program. It provides:
  • A $5,000 bonus when you begin the program, plus a $5,000 bonus at graduation
  • A monthly stipend of $1,000 during the months you are enrolled in a full-time Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education-, or National League for Nursing-accredited nursing program
Eligibility requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science degree must be completed within 6 to 24 months
  • Passage of the NCLEX-RN examination is necessary prior to commissioning as an Army Nurse Corps Officer
  • U.S. citizenship
  • Prior enlisted Army Soldiers must have completed all Mandatory Service Obligations and have less than 10 years active federal service at time of commissioning
RESERVE NURSE CORPS PROGRAMS

SPECIALIZED TRAINING ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (STRAP)

This program is open to associate degree/diploma nurses currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program. Recipients receive a monthly stipend of more than $1,900.

Participants incur a one-year obligation to serve in the Army Reserve for each six months or less of financial assistance.

NURSING OPPORTUNITIES FOR SERVICE MEMBERS

AMEDD ENLISTED COMMISSIONING PROGRAM (AECP)
Active or Reserve Army enlisted Soldiers are eligible to attend college full-time to complete a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. This program provides:
  • Up to $9,000 per academic year for tuition, and mandatory fees for up to 24 months
  • Up to $1,000 per academic year for books
  • Full pay and allowances, including eligibility for promotions
Eligibility requirements:
  • Able to meet prescribed medical and moral standards for appointment as a commissioned Officer
  • U.S. citizenship
  • Be between 21-42 years of age (exceptions granted for prior service applicants)
  • Have a minimum of three years (waiverable) and a maximum of 10 years (waiverable) of active federal service at time of commissioning
  • Be able to complete a bachelor's degree within 24 calendar months of enrollment
FUNDED NURSE EDUCATION PROGRAM (FNEP)
Army Officers on active duty are eligible to become Army nurses while receiving full pay and benefits. FNEP provides the opportunity to obtain a BSN or an MSN. Participants must be able to complete all degree requirements in 24 consecutive months or fewer. This program provides:
  • Up to $12,000 per year for tuition, books and fees
  • Full pay and allowances
Eligibility requirements:
  • U.S. citizenship
  • Currently serving in the Army on active duty in the grade of O-3
  • Must maintain full-time student status while in the program
  • Possess a conditional release from his/her basic branch
